Restorative Approach
- A restorative approach aims to repair the harm caused to a range of relationships. It allows those causing harm to gain insight into the effects of their behaviour, and provides an opportunity for those harmed to obtain a degree of resolution (Zehr, 1990).
- This approach recognises the victim’s and the offender’s roles in both problem and solution, where a victim’s rights/needs are recognised and the young person is encouraged to take responsibility for their actions.
- Dialogue and negotiation between a range of parties is key to the success of the restorative approach.
