Youth Justice Agency publishes Annual Report – Goggins (10/07/2008)
A new priority will be given to services directed at young people leaving Woodlands Juvenile Justice Centre, to help reduce re-offending and assist personal development in areas such as family life, education and employment. This is just one of the challenges for the year ahead outlined in the Youth Justice Agency’s fifth annual report, which Criminal Justice Minister Paul Goggins MP welcomed today.
Another key area will be prevention and early intervention. The Agency will be working with partners in the statutory, voluntary and community sectors to ensure that a clear approach is developed which is aligned to the OFMDFM Ten Year Strategy for children and young people in Northern Ireland.
Paul Goggins said:
“The Agency has met seven of its nine key targets and achieved 15 of its 18 development objectives for the 2007-2008 business year. The central aim of achieving best practice in every sector of youth justice is well advanced and gives a strong base from which to move forward.
“The challenge for the Agency now is to build upon their achievements and, in partnership with local communities and others, further develop and deliver a broad range of interventions which will enable young people to stay away from crime and anti-social behaviour. This will help to build confidence in the criminal justice system.”
