Youth Justice Agency holds Insight and Networking event in Portadown (24/11/2008)
The Youth Justice Agency held an Insight and Networking event at the Seagoe Hotel in Portadown last week.Guests from the Craigavon, Portadown and Banbridge areas, were given a valuable insight into the work of the Agency by Youth Conference Service and Community Services staff. Presentations were also given by various stakeholder groups including the PSNI, Public Prosecution Service, District Judge Mr White and the LINKS project. Guests also got to hear at first hand the emotive experiences of victims and young people who had participated in the youth conference process.
Aideen McLaughlin, Assistant Director of the Youth Conference Service said “The event has been very successful in helping promote the work of the Youth Justice Agency and has allowed guests to get a true understanding of what a youth conference involves.
Youth conferencing provides a voice for both young offenders and victims of crime. It works best where victims participate and we have heard today how the experience can help with the healing process for victim, offender, their families, and the community.
I would like to thank those who have attended today and hope this will help us further develop our existing partnerships and build new ones in the local community and throughout the criminal justice system over the coming months and years.”
