Young Photographers to Get Snapping! Closing date extended to 10 March 2009 ( 3/03/2009)
Youth Justice Agency has launched a photographic competition, in conjunction with Harrison photography, for aspiring young photographers aged between 10 and 17 years.
Designed to give young people the opportunity to express their ideas about how to reduce youth crime, all entrants are being asked to capture one of the following themes in a photographic image or montage:
· How to avoid getting into trouble
· Staying safe
· Making your community a better place.
The competition will be divided into two distinct age categories for young people aged between 10 to 13 and 14 to 17 years. The closing date for the competition is 27 February.
Regional prizes will be awarded to winners in each age group from each county across Northern Ireland. Prizes will include digital cameras for the individual winners along with vouchers for their school or local youth club. One overall winner will also be given the opportunity to experience a professional photo-shoot courtesy of award winning Harrison Photography.
To mark the end of the competition, a special award ceremony will be held in Hillsborough Castle.
Speaking at the launch of the competition Bill Lockhart, Chief Executive of the Youth Justice Agency said
“The Youth Justice Agency aims to reduce youth crime and build confidence in the youth justice system. Too often there is a misconception amongst the public that the majority of young people are involved in crime and anti-social behaviour. This competition is an ideal opportunity for young people to dispel this myth and showcase their creative skills through the medium of photography.
Interpretation of the theme and originality of ideas are equally as important as the technical skill involved in taking the photograph so I hope that schools and youth clubs will encourage all young people to take part.
I am also delighted to have award winning photographers HarrisonPhotography supporting this worthy competition and wish to thank them for their involvement.”
