DVD highlights the dangers of alcohol (29/01/2010)
Drinking alcohol can have devastating consequences. That is the message of a short film produced by and starring young people engaged with the Youth Justice Agency’s Community Services offices in Lisburn. The film, entitled “A Good Night Out?”, shows a group of young friends drinking excessively and messing around before their evening ends in disaster when one of the group gets hurt. The following morning his friends must face the consequences.
Safer Lisburn provided financial backing for the project which was filmed around Lisburn Square under the supervision of Dean Moore from Creative Video Workshops. Dean provided the professional guidance and technical support to the production while the young people themselves came up with the idea and script.
The Youth Justice Agency now hopes the DVD can be integrated into alcohol awareness programmes to help highlight the dangers of alcohol to many other young people throughout Northern Ireland.
Franziska Hewitt, manager of the Youth Justice Agency’s Community Services office in Lisburn said “I have been most impressed with the commitment to the project by these seven young people, some of whom are on court orders while others have been engaged with us voluntarily. They worked tirelessly in freezing cold temperatures and proved their talents to all involved with their creativity, dedication and of course their acting ability.”
I would also like to thank Safer Lisburn and Dean Moore for bringing this idea to fruition, and my staff in the Youth Justice Agency, not just for the hard work they put into the planning and organisation, but also the encouragement they provided to the young people involved.”
Stephen McCracken from Safer Lisburn Community Safety Partnership added , “We are delighted to be involved in this project which raises awareness to young people and the wider community of the consequences of drinking alcohol to excessive limits. I feel that because this project was undertaken by a group of young people it will mean that the message it conveys will have a greater impact on their peers."
