Youth Justice Agency taking positive steps to tackle crime and anti- social behaviour in Mid-Ulster (12/02/2010)
The Youth Justice Agency officially opened its new Community Services Mid-Ulster offices this morning (Friday 12 February). The office relocated from Magherafelt to Dungannon last year but continues to serve the wider community right across the Mid-Ulster region. The Agency works with young people who have become involved, or are in danger of becoming involved, in offending behaviour. By working in close partnership with various statutory, voluntary and community groups the staff in the Mid-Ulster office are taking positive steps to deal with crime and anti-social behaviour among young people in the area.
Michaela Murray, Manager of Youth Justice Agency Community Services Mid- Ulster addressed invited guests. She said “Cookstown, Dungannon, Magherafelt and their surrounding areas are proactive communities with vibrant community based partnerships who have a focus on the challenges which affect us all. Our joined up approach to tackling community concerns is evident in the many programmes of work, community forums, reparative replacements and diversionary projects that we are involved in. These have allowed us to develop programmes and interventions for young people to reduce offending and influence attitudes and behaviours.
I look forward to continuing with our partnerships, making new contacts and identifying new opportunities for sharing good practice in the coming months.”
