Young people urged to make a difference ( 9/01/2012)
Young people are being asked to demonstrate how they have made a difference to society and their local communities in the Youth Justice Agency’s annual competition for 10 to 17 year olds. The theme of the competition is ‘Young people can make a difference’, with entrants invited to show what the theme means to them though one of the following four categories-photography, short film, poetry/short story or song/rap.

Winners will be judged in two age groups, 10 to 13 years old and 14 to 17 years old. Great prizes are up for grabs in each of the categories including kindles, iPods and digital cameras (courtesy of sponsor The Co-operative Membership) and a day jobshadowing a professional photographer (courtesy of Harrison Photography).
All winners accompanied by their parents/guardians and a representative from their school or club will also be invited to a prize giving ceremony in Parliament Buildings in Spring 2012.
Launching the competition, Chief Executive of the Youth Justice Agency Paula Jack said:
“Many young people make a real positive contribution to their communities but they seldom receive the contribution they deserve. Indeed it is the negative behaviour of a small minority who are more likely to attract media headlines. This competition gives young people a voice to set the record straight and show us the impact they are making on society.Young people express themselves in different ways and I hope the categories available will provide everyone with a suitable opportunity to demonstrate how they meet the theme.
I am most grateful to The Co-operative Membership, Harrison Photography and Dan Gordon who are all providing their support for the fourth successive year as without their contribution our competition could not take place.”
Full details of the competition and how to enter are available on the Agency’s website www.youthjusticeagencyni.gov.uk. The closing date for entries is 24 February 2012.
