During The Meeting
WHAT HAPPENS AT THE MEETING?
At the meeting, you will speak first to tell everyone what you did and why you decided to commit the offence. The Police Officer will talk about it too. The victim will tell you how your action affected him/her. Other people will talk about the effect on them e.g. your mother, father.
The victim will tell you what he/she wants you to do to show you are really sorry.
After this, you can talk about what you are willing to do to make up for the distress you have caused to the victim.
For instance; you can apologise to the victim, pay back money for any damage you did or anything you stole, do voluntary activity in the community to show you want to make up for what you did.
Also, you will have to do something to show you will try to stop getting into trouble with the law again.
For instance; get help if you are taking drugs, solvents or alcohol. Keep going to school every day or do a course to help you get work or stay away from the place where you committed this offence.
AT THE END OF THE MEETING
You will be asked to agree to several actions just like those described. This is called a Youth Conference Plan.
It is your Plan and you might think about some other really good ideas to show the victim that you are genuinely sorry and you want to make amends.
