Release Or Remand
The young person will normally be released on bail, except in cases where they are considered a risk to the public or for certain offences. If the court decides that they should be remanded in custody, the magistrate must give reasons in court for doing this. In this case, he/she will probably be remanded to Woodlands Juvenile Justice Centre in Bangor.
If the young person pleads not guilty, a date will be set for their trial when the magistrate will hear all the evidence and decide whether or not they are guilty. If the decision is ‘guilty’, the magistrate will decide on the most appropriate sentence.
